The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior - Building Construction
Building for Bavaria's citizens
The State Building Department looks after 31,000 buildings, from churches to universities
building for the future
With all the buildings we maintain, improve and extend, we could build a city twice the size of Augsburg. The State Building Department is one of the largest customers of the Bavarian construction industry. Via our local building authorities more than EUR 1.3 billion every year is invested with the involvement of independent architects, engineers and artists. These funds help create and maintain valuable structures whilst providing employment all over Bavaria at the same time. We also act in an advisory capacity on the development of municipal building projects, like schools and hospitals, at an annual cost of more than EUR 1.8 billion.
All buildings of the State of Bavaria are in our care, including universities, institutes of technology and the boat houses on our Königssee (lake). We also renovate and care for many world-famous castles, cathedrals and churches. In our amalgamation with the Building Administration of the Treasury, we have acquired a new and interesting area of responsibility: caring for most federal properties located in Bavaria, like military installations of the German Armed Forces and of NATO or the buildings of the Employment and Finance Administrations.
Our services range from advising public owner-builders, through structural maintenance to turnkey construction of buildings. The State Building Department also researches fundamental issues like cost-efficient or ecological building, the reduction of CO² through energy conservation, as well as rationalization and demand planning.
